About Midway Machine

A family-rooted Houston machine shop combining four decades of tradition with state-of-the-art technology.

Our history

Midway Machine and Instrument was founded in 1979 by John Mai, who brought valuable experience from his 15 years in the aerospace industry.

Starting with sweeping the warehouse, John worked his way up through parts inventory for the Apollo Lunar Module and eventually completed a 16-week machinist training program hosted by Grumman.

Midway began operations with four machines: two Bridgeport machining centers, one engine lathe and one band saw. After building a loyal customer base, we expanded to a 2,000 square foot shop in 1984. Today, following several expansions, the Midway team operates from a state-of-the-art 25,000 square foot facility in Houston's industrial core.

In 2023, our machine shop started a new chapter under the leadership of Humberto Garza. With a family legacy in machining and extensive expertise in corporate business, Humberto brings a unique blend of tradition and innovation to drive our company forward.
